Ccw Glock 19 - When people start talking about concealed carry and self defense, one pistol that almost always seems to come up in the discussion is the Glock 19. Love the Glock 19 or hate it, there's no denying that this weapon is There are legions of fans here. in the U.S. the states
And why not? If it's good enough for many law enforcement agencies, this 9x19mm polymer pistol will be fine for most civilians. Well, I've been carrying a Gen4 Glock 19 for a few years now and I'm ready to share some of my experiences while carrying it.

Basically, this is what you need to know about using the Glock 19 as your EDC weapon of choice.
Race Gun Vs. Carry Gun
Unbeknownst to everyone, the Glock 19 is a firing pin-fired, polymer-framed semi-automatic pistol. Glock lists it on their website as a compact 9mm, although you'll find it to be a subcompact between the Glock 26 and the full-size Glock 17 in most gun enthusiasts. There is a difference. Similar pistols are smart. The G3 version has a slightly longer overall length of 7.36 inches. The Gen4 and Gen5 models come in at 7.28 inches. All three pistols have a long 4.02-inch barrel and offer 15-round magazines as standard, unless you live in a state with magazine restrictions.
Regardless of which generation you choose, you're looking at around 24 ounces loaded and 30 ounces with a full magazine, making these guns a bit heavy when it comes to secretive weapons. We'll talk more about that weight and how to lose it later.
As for the other differences, Glock added metric serration and slightly extended the front of the slide on the Gen5 model. Interestingly, the Gen5s are slightly wider than the Gen3 and 4 at 1.34 inches. Another major difference is that the Gen3 and 4 have thumb grips, while the Gen5 does not. The internal components of most weapons are the same between generations. There are a few differences to some of the internal features, but unless you're a true stylist, you're unlikely to notice them.
In conclusion, we really cannot recommend this particular class of Glock pistol for CCW. We recommend going to your local gun shop and trying each one out to see if it feels good in someone's hands. It's going to be different for every shooter. I should point out that all the tests I am going to detail involve the original Gen4 model. I know I can add things like an aftermarket trigger or recoil spring to improve performance. However, I'm not very picky about these things. Sure, the trigger is a bit iffy, but I've used it more than I've used it. Some would say you need to put a few thousand rounds through a new one to properly break it. Overall, I found the G19 to be perfect for my needs right out of the box.

As we mentioned earlier, the Glock 19 comes with around 30 ounces fully loaded. A tight gun belt is an absolute must when carrying a G19 or it will dry out and be quite uncomfortable. We highly recommend purchasing a special gun belt with reinforced loops and holes specifically for this purpose. If you're going to wear this for everyday wear, you want it to be comfortable. Remember that you generally get what you pay for these days and you probably won't have a great experience if you overlook something as simple as a belt.
When it comes to covers, you'll get a lot of different opinions. I have personally been using Alien Gear Holsters for a few years now. Specifically, for the Glock 19 I am using the Clock Tuck IWB Holster. In case anyone here is new to concealment, IWB stands for "Inside the Waistband Holster." (This should go without saying, but an OWB holster is one worn outside of the waistband.)
In general, I am happy with my purchase. Alien Gear makes their cases well with polymer and leather. The side that presses against your body is padded and quite comfortable. The good thing is that they include spacers, screws and nuts to further customize the case to the style you prefer. I like to carry this pistol in the rear end or "six eight" position most of the time and it's amazing how slim the profile is. I usually wear 19 in the summer months. I have to be careful when wearing a t-shirt long enough to cover my back, but I have noticed that there is no print at all when using this sleeve. One drawback is that the baked leather back has too much property on its body. If it's hot, you may sweat and it may touch your skin if you're not looking. If you work outdoors a lot, you may want to consider a different holster or smaller pistol.
However, I have always felt more comfortable and confident carrying my gun in this holster. It offers excellent retention and the shell also completely encloses the trigger guard, which was one of the main reasons I bought it. Remember that the Glock 19 does not have a safety available. If you're going to be carrying a camera, you want something that will reduce the chance of accidental discharge.

Besides Alien Gear, another brand that many G19 owners seem to like is Fierce Defender's Kydex holsters. The price is about the same as an Alien Gear, however the Kydex has a much smaller profile, making it slightly better for smaller framed shooters or those hoping to carry a Glock 19 as an appendage. Though it's worth noting that most users of this holster say it works in almost every position. I haven't tried the Kydex holster yet, so I can't personally comment on it, but the Amazon reviews shine with over 300 ratings for this item, which I personally always take as a good sign for most products.
I have been carrying my Glock for a little over three years now and have been happy for the most part. There have been a few times that I have considered carrying a subcompact Glock, possibly larger than the 9mm Luger. If only because there are some days when a 30-ounce gun is just too much to carry, even with that quality belt I mentioned earlier.
One thing is for sure, I have always felt safe and confident that I could handle any self defense situation that might arise. Fortunately, I've never had an incident where I've needed it and I hope I never will. Another reason I chose the 19 is simply because it feels full-size in the hands compared to a smaller model. It just gives me a little more confidence that I can use the gun correctly in an emergency if necessary. For shooters with larger hands, the 19 seems to attempt the perfect compromise between stuffing a full-size into a holster and adjusting the grip for a smaller subcompact.
Most experts also say that you will never need more than three to five rounds if you are unfortunate enough to get involved in a firefight. However, I've always believed in the saying "It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it." Putting 15 rounds in a gun just gives a little more peace of mind. The good thing about the Gen4 Glock is that it comes with three magazines. If you can find a magazine holster you like, that's 45 rounds you can potentially carry with you. Is there a superculture to carry so much ammunition? maybe I hope I never have to find out.
